Route 152 Improvements Project
Field Activity Report

Overview
This project provides safety and operational improvements on Route 152, between U.S. 101 and Route 156 in Gilroy and Santa Clara County.
Project Objective
To provide safety and operational improvements.
Project Features
Four projects have been identified:
- Project A, Phase 1 widened Route 152 from two to four lanes between U.S. 101 to immediately west of ConAgra Foods, constructed new intersections, and improved the northbound U.S. 101 off-ramp to Route 152
- Project A, Phase 2 constructed a new loop on-ramp to southbound U.S. 101 from westbound Route 152 and improved the southbound U.S. 101 off-ramp to Route 152
- Project B, Phase 1 widened Route 152 from two to four
lanes from immediately west of ConAgra Foods through the Llagas Creek Bridge.
In addition, this phase improved the intersection at the ConAgra Foods east
entrance by aligning it with the new South Valley Disposal and Recycling Inc.
entrance and installed a traffic signal.
- Project B, Phase 2 widens Route 152 from Llagas Creek bridge to beyond the Old Llagas Creek bridge.
Maintenance of Traffic Flow
For the safety of the public and construction workers, traffic control measures (such as temporary lane closures and detours) will be used when needed. Contractors will make every effort to maintain access and minimize disruptions.
Operations
Upon completion, Caltrans will operate and maintain the newly improved highway.
Capital Cost/Project Funding
$26.2 million: $20.7 million from 1996 Measure B funding and $5.5 million from the City of Gilroy.
Cost savings from the Tasman East/Capitol Light Rail Extension Project were applied to Project B, Phase 1.
