San Jose, Calif. – On Thursday, February 7, 2008 the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Board of Directors meeting will be the first consisting of the newly formed VTA Board for 2008. The second VTA Board meeting this year will be presided over by incoming 2008 Board Chair and Santa Clara County Supervisor Liz Kniss and Vice Chair and Cupertino Mayor Dolly Sandoval, and will include new members representing the cities of Los Altos, Palo Alto, San José, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale.
“These new members are joining VTA’s Board at a pivotal time as the agency refines its new Bus Service Operating Plan, develops long-term strategies for delivering capital projects and addresses governance issues highlighted in a recent Organizational and Financial Assessment,” said Board Chair and Santa Clara County Supervisor Liz Kniss.
Palo Alto City Council Member Yoriko Kishimoto and Los Altos City Council Member David Casas joined the VTA Board, assuming the appointments previously held by outgoing Los Altos Hills Town Council Member Breene Kerr and outgoing Mountain View City Council Member Laura Macias. In addition, Santa Clara City Council Member Dominic Caserta, who previously served as a Board alternate member, has joined the Board, assuming the appointment previously held by former Sunnyvale City Council Member Dean J. Chu.
San José City Council Member Nancy Pyle has joined her fellow San José Council members on the Board. Pyle assumes the appointment held by San José Vice Mayor Dave Cortese, who became a Board alternate member. Milpitas Vice Mayor Bob Livengood and Sunnyvale Council Member Chris Moylan have also been appointed to serve as alternate VTA Board members.
In addition, Dean J. Chu former Board Chair and former Sunnyvale City Council Member has joined the Board in a different capacity -- as an Ex-Officio Member appointed to represent the Cities of Santa Clara County on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) Board.
VTA’s Board of Directors is composed of 12 elected officials representing Santa Clara County and its cities. It consists of two members of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, five City of San José appointees and five appointments from cities other than San José.
