Be Green and Save Some Green!

Release Number:   nr04-08_2008
Release Date:   April 21, 2008

San Jose, Calif. – In recognition of Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22, 2008, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is encouraging everyone to consider going green by using public transportation.  With soaring gas prices and the collective desire to reduce emissions, utilizing public transit has multiple benefits.

According to a recent study by the American Public Transportation Association, if a solo commuter in a household gives up daily driving, it will reduce their household carbon footprint by 10 percent.  Findings also indicate that giving up a second vehicle and opting for public transit reduces a household’s carbon emissions by up to 30-percent.

In the spirit of Earth Day, all Santa Clara County residents are encouraged to reduce greenhouse gases by taking VTA.  To help county residents become more familiar with VTA’s transit services, VTA Information Service Representatives will attend two community Earth Day events and provide free trip planning.
