VTA Supports MTCs Transportation 2035 Workshop
| Release Number: | nr05-02 |
| Release Date: | May 7, 2008 |
San Jose, Calif.-The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is participating in a workshop hosted by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) to introduce a proposed long-range regional transportation plan and receive community input. The effort known as Transportation 2035 Change in Motion, Regional Transportation Plan includes a series of workshops in counties throughout the Bay Area.
Following extensive public outreach that occurred last fall and the submission of hundreds of possible transportation projects, MTC is seeking input for the next phase of the plan’s development: the trade-offs among various options for investing the region’s limited transportation resources. VTA is pleased to be part of the process.
“We appreciate the opportunity to help steer MTC toward a better transportation future. We’re glad that many of the green, sustainable programs MTC is fostering are already well into development in Santa Clara County,” said Dean Chu of the MTC and VTA Board.
MTC’s Transportation 2035 Workshop in Santa Clara County is scheduled at the following location:
Martin Luther King Library, Room 225, 2nd Floor
150 E. San Fernando Street, San Jose
Thursday, May 8, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
This location is served by VTA Bus Lines 63, 64, 72, 73 and 81. Light Rail and the following Bus Lines are within two blocks of this location: 22, 23, 66, 68, 180, 522 and Hwy 17 Express.
VTA began its own process of updating its 25-year long-range Valley Transportation Plan (VTP) in February 2008. During that stage of the development of VTP 2035, VTA sought public input regarding project lists submitted. Since then, VTA prepared a draft project lists that was submitted to the MTC for consideration in the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). These lists will be subject to revisions as discussions continue at the county and regional levels.
VTA’s effort is an ongoing process that is expected to continue through the end of 2008. At the end of this process, VTA's Board of Directors will adopt the Valley Transportation Plan 2035 which will articulate a countywide vision for transportation, support the regional vision for transportation in the Bay Area, and outline transportation planning, projects and programs for Santa Clara County.
